Minnesota will be host to the Region V AACTFest in 2017. MACT is pleased to announce that it has chosen the Chalberg Theatre on the campus of Central Lakes College in Brainerd as the location for the festival. Our hosts will be Brainerd Area Community Theatre and Central Lakes College. The dates for the Region V AACTFest will be April 27th - April 30th, 2017. It is a 270 seat house.
The best way to find us on campus is to park in the North parking lot off of College Drive, enter CLC through door #4, go to the left then an immediate right. The box office will be on the left.
Click here for a diagram of the stage. The playing area will be in front of the mid stage traveler at line set 6. Behind the traveler will be the staging areas for the sets. There will be additional set storage in the scene shop which is off of stage left. This facility uses twist lock plugs for its stage lighting. If you are bringing any lighting equipment that you want to run from their dimmers, make sure you have adapters for twist lock.
There are seven states in Region V. Each state has the potential to send two shows to the regional festival. A random drawing was held to select the performance order, filling the last performance slot first and working backwards from there. The performance order will be (in performance order):
1 - Iowa B (Newton Community Theatre; "PVT. Wars")
2 - Minnesota A (Fungus Amongus Players; "The Voice of the Prairie")
3 - Kansas A
4 - Iowa A (The Wilson Performing Arts Center; "A Number")
5 - Nebraska B (Lofte Community Theatre; "Shakespeares a Dick")
6 - South Dakota A
7 - Minnesota B (MN SkyVault Theatre; "On the Road to Verona")
8 - Nebraska A (Beatrice Community Players; "The Santaland Diaries")
At this time we are not sure if Kansas will be sending a show. If they do not, slot 3 will be vacated and the shows below that will move up to fill the empty slot.
It looks like we might have a 7 or 8 show festival. In either case, all the performances will be held on Friday and Saturday.
At 8 shows, there will probably be 4 sessions of 2 shows each. This would necessitate two rehearsals on Thursday, probably at 6:00 and 8:00 or 5:00 and 7:00. (These would be Iowa B and Minnesota A.)
At 7 shows, there will likely be 3 or 4 sessions with 1 to 3 shows in each session (1, 2, 2, 2 or 2, 2, 3 or 3, 2, 2).
Rehearsals will be in the same relative order as the performances. There will be three rehearsals on Saturday Morning. The number of and times of rehearsals on Friday will depend on the time of a possible afternoon session. We allocate 2 hours per rehearsal slot. Saturday morning rehearsal times are at 6:00, 8:00 and 10:00 am. Friday rehearsal times will be set based on the number of shows and performance schedule.
There will also be workshops on Friday and Saturday morning and a Region V meeting on Saturday morning at 10:30.
Nebraska has already held their festival and the two shows that will advance to the Region V Festival have been selected.
Minnesotas festival was held on March 1st through 5th at the Schwans Community Center for the Performing Arts in Marshall, MN, where the two advancing shows were selected.
Iowas festival was held March 16th through 19th in Marshalltown, IA where two shows were selected to advance to the regional festival.
South Dakotas festival has been cancelled. The two entering theatres will be adjudicated at their home theatres and one will be selected to attend the Region V festival.
