Fast Fest ’18

MACT’s biennial short play festival, Fast*Fest, has been canceled.

After much soul searching and deliberating, we have decided to cancel Fast*Fest 2018.  There were only three theatres that registered by the original deadline.  Three additional theatres came forward that were willing to try to put together a show if we needed them to make Fast*Fest work.  We did not feel that this was enough participation to make the event worthwhile.

We thank those theatres for their willingness to participate. 

We hope to see you all in Austin in March for MACT*Fest 2019.

It would have been held August 17th & 18th at the Encore Performing Arts Center in Cloquet, MN, hosted by County Seat Theatre Company.

There is no fee for current MACT members to present a show at Fast*Fest.  There will be a $25 fee for non-members to present a show..

Friday night there will a welcome social at the Encore Performing Arts Center.  This is a chance to socialize with old friends, make new friends and to see the theatre.  It is a great time to "talk shop" with fellow theatre people.  MACT provided snacks and there will be a cash bar.

Saturday morning will kick off at 9:30 with the first workshop session.  Following that, at 10:45, there will be a second workshop session.  We are planning a choice of two workshops in each session.  Topics hve not been determined yet.

Saturday afternoon will start off at 1:00 with the first performance session.

Saturday evening will be another performance session.

The evening, and festival, will be topped off with another social event where we can talk about the shows we’ve just seen with fellow thespians.  Food and a cash bar will be available for everyone’s enjoyment.

Hotels for Fast*Fest 2018 will be the Super 8 and the AmericInn.  Hotel room prices good through July 17th and subject to availability.  Ask for the MACT rate.  The Carlton County Fair is going on at the same time, so hotels are booking fast.

More information, including register information, will be coming after the first of the year.

RULES: Each peformance will have 5 minutes to setup, 20 minutes to perform and 5 minutes to strike.  We provided a table and four chairs.  Performing companies can bring in one additional set piece and costumes and props as needed.  There are no rehearsals on the stage before the performances.  There are NO LIGHTING SPECIALS allowed, a standard plot of 4 areas of warm and cool wash will be provided.

There will be a short, moderator led colloquy after each performance.

The festival is open to community theatres, high school and college theatre programs and ad hoc groups.  No professional theatres.  Registration for performing companies is free to MACT members.  Non-MACT-members will be charged a $25 registration fee which includes a 6 month MACT membership (July through December).  A registration form will be available after the first of the year.  Registration deadline for performing companies will be June 20th (received by us date - not postmarked).  Performance order will be by random drawing from entries received by the deadline, filling the last performance slot first and working backwards.
