Minnesota is proud to have been the site of the Region V AACTFest 2017.  The festival was held in the Chalberg Theatre on the campus of Central Lakes College in Brainerd.  Our hosts were Brainerd Area Community Theatre and Central Lakes College.  The dates for the Region V AACTFest were Friday, April 28th through Sunday, April 30th, 2017.  The Chalberg Theatre seats 270 people.

Click here for a diagram of the stage.  The playing area was in front of the mid stage traveler. Behind the traveler were the staging areas for the sets.  There were additional set storage in the scene shop which is off of stage left.  This facility uses twist lock plugs for its stage lighting.

There are seven states in Region V.  Each state has the potential to send two shows to the regional festival. A random drawing was held to select the performance order, filling the last performance slot first and working backwards from there.  The performance order was (in performance order):

1 - Iowa B (Newton Community Theatre; "PVT. Wars")
2 - Minnesota A (Fungus Amongus Players; "The Voice of the Prairie")
3 - Kansas A (Auburn Community Theatre; "A Candle on the Table")
4 - Iowa A (The Wilson Performing Arts Center; "A Number")
5 - Nebraska B (Lofte Community Theatre; "Shakespeare’s a Dick")
6 - South Dakota A (Aberdeen Community Theatre; "Mavis Pleads the Fourth")
7 - Minnesota B (MN SkyVault Theatre; "On the Road to Verona")
8 - Nebraska A (Beatrice Community Players; "The Santaland Diaries")

At 8 shows, there were 4 sessions of 2 shows each.  This necessitated two rehearsals on Thursday.  (These were Iowa B and Minnesota A.)

Rehearsals were in the same relative order as the performances.  There were two rehearsal on Thursday and three rehearsals on Friday morning and Saturday morning.

There were also workshops on Friday and Saturday morning and a Region V meeting on Saturday morning at 11:30.

Region V was awarded one of the wildcard slots and so is able to send two shows to the national AACTFest 2017 in Rochester, MN.
